With professionals from INTA Bariloche and the Technical Office of Los Menucos, a training course was held on sheep reproductive technologies with emphasis on artificial insemination techniques.
Sheep producers from localities near Los Menucos and students from CET 26 in Ingeniero Jacobacci, Río Negro, participated.
In order to improve production and adaptation to the environment, some producers invest in genetic lines of interest and classify their best dams to provide natural or artificial service. In this way, a selected number of dams are synchronized for estrus using intravaginal sponges and eCG when the dams are removed, and then artificial insemination is performed.
We adapted the facilities of the Rural Society of Los Menucos to develop the theoretical part and a small office as "insemination room" and bretes outside, for the extraction of fresh semen.
We worked in subgroups due to the high number of participants, approximately 50 people, where each one was able to identify different structures of the cervix in sheep, clinical review of rams, fresh semen extraction with artificial vagina, seminal motility. The objective is to provide knowledge and evaluate production objectives before deciding which technology to use.
