Training workshop for producer families dictated by Dr. Med Vet. Miguel Guzman Munoz. May 25, 2022, Peñaflor, Chile.

Within the framework of the FONTAGRO project, last Wednesday, May 25, a training talk was held for small poultry producers located in the town of Peñaflor, Metropolitan Region (Santiago, Chile), organized by Dr. Lucía Valenzuela-Pérez. The main objective of the talk was to address the main aspects of biosecurity that must be addressed by producers at the local level and to teach in a simple and didactic way about the main diseases that affect poultry, especially coccidia.

The talk given by Dr. Miguel Guzmán Muñoz was expository in nature and photographs and videos were used as support for the training. Within the aspects addressed in the area of ??biosecurity, producers were told about the importance of properly managing the host-pathogen-environment triad in order to reduce the probability of disease in animals. Emphasis was placed on the proper handling of fomites and how the proper use of clothing and disinfection can improve the health of farms. In addition, they discussed pest management and how they can interfere with the health of birds.

In the animal health area, they were shown a video where they were taught to recognize the types of injuries associated with disease in birds. They discussed respiratory diseases, diseases caused by external parasites, by Salmonella and Coccidia that can affect poultry production, what are their main presentation characteristics to identify them, mitigation and prevention measures.
