FONTAGRO increased investment in science, technology and innovation for Latin America, the Caribbean and Spain.
Since our inception, we have co-financed 195 regional projects, totaling $139.7 million, of which $28 million were contributed by FONTAGRO, $21.9 million by other agencies, and $90.8 million through counterpart contributions from the institutions themselves. The number of beneficiaries reached 48,824 people, and a total of 81,771 individuals have been trained.
In its 25 years, FONTAGRO has reached 1,809 public and private institutions, such as universities, NGOs, international and regional organizations, National Research Institutes; and 35 countries worldwide.
At the end of 2023, there are 48 active projects, for a total of $47.1 million.
At the same time, 1081 experimental sites, 739 networks, and 171 collaborative work teams have been successfully established, resulting in 685 knowledge products, 47 scientific articles, and 256 videos.
This demonstrates how a unique organizational and institutional model of convergence and inclusion of stakeholders for research, innovation, and the development of agriculture and food has been consolidated.
Technical Cooperation for resilient agriculture.
The agri-food systems of meat and dairy in New Zealand, Latin America, and the Caribbean are key to supplying protein to the world.
FONTAGRO, together with the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) of New Zealand and the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse (GRA), supported 16 initiatives for a total of $14.3 million. Together, we have focused on strengthening science, technology, and innovation for the adaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gases in the agri-food sector, promoting participatory and collaborative research, and the training of new scientists and technicians.
