Biography

Dr. Salazar is an agronomist from the University of La Frontera, Chile and a PhD from the University of Reading, in the United Kingdom. He is a researcher for the Sustainability and Environment group at INIA Remehue. He was bi-Regional Director and Deputy Director of INIA Remehue, Chile. He has been part of the board of directors of different science and technology consortia in Chile. He is currently a member of the board of directors of the dairy consortium that brings together the actors in the milk chain in Chile. He has led and participated in national and international research and development projects, specializing in the management of dairy effluents, organic waste (e.g. sludge), nutrient losses in agricultural systems and greenhouse gases (GHG). He has published more than 30 articles in scientific journals, 150 publications in congresses and 50 informative publications, highlighting the first Manual of Handling and Utilization of Dairy Manure in Chile. He is a member of international scientific networks on the management and use of organic waste in agriculture, such as RAMIRAN (Europe) and ManureSouth (South America) and associate editor of Waste Management in Agroecosystems, Frontiers publishing house. He is a member of the group of specialists in charge of estimating GHG emissions from the Chilean livestock sector.
