Executive Summary

The Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology (FONTAGRO) is a unique mechanism to promote collaboration for the innovation of family farming. It was created in 1998 by 15 countries with the sponsorship of the IDB. Through the years FONTAGRO has supported more than 160 projects and initiatives in the region, for a total of over US$120 million. In order to promote the use of knowledge products generated by FONTAGRO projects and its partners, FONTAGRO and its affiliated entities need to improve their knowledge management abilities. To that effect, innovative information and communication channels and activities will play an important role in reaching targeted audiences. This combo of IT infrastructure and outreach activities is crucial for (a) the transition from an applied research knowledge product to actual application within the agricultural production function, and (b) the visibility of outputs and outcomes to strategic partners, policymakers and the research community.

Results

  • Enhance FONTAGRO’s institutional image.
  • Increase visibility of research results and foster an innovation-enabling environment for its use by relevant stakeholders.
  • Strengthen knowledge management capacities and communications skills of researchers involved in FONTAGRO’s projects.
