Presentation of Master Thesis Proposal in Chemical Engineering

Published at: 02 December 2022

Karen Amorocho Cubides, a Master's student in Chemical Engineering at the Universidad Industrial de Santander, presented her research proposal related to obtaining nanozeolites by high-energy milling.

The research work presented aims to elaborate nanozeolites by means of the high-energy grinding reduction method.

The effect of the filling parameter and grinding time on the size, morphology and crystallinity of the nanozeolite will be evaluated. The nanoparticles will be analysed by dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), among others. Subsequently, the nanozeolites obtained will be applied to Ray Grass crops in the greenhouse of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, Málaga to determine biomass production and nitrogen uptake.

It should be noted that zeolite nanoparticles are materials with ion exchange, water retention and nutrient absorption characteristics. When nanozeolites are applied with conventional fertilisers, they act as nitrogen reservoirs and increase nitrogen efficiency.
