CYCLE OF CONFERENCES THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR IN THE FACE OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Between June 2 and July 30, 2020, the Cycle of Conferences “The Agricultural Sector Facing Climate Change) was held, organized by the Project“ Sustainable Intensification of Livestock Systems with Legumes: cooperation platform ”jointly with the INTA Climate Change Platform. Participation in the cycle was free and free, reaching a wide spectrum that included scientists from various disciplines, teachers and students of different levels of education, technical advisers, extension workers and producers, among others. The transmission was carried out through the official YouTube channel of INTA Argentina, the site where the videos are currently available.

Each of the 17 conferences that were part of the cycle (Image 1) had an important attendance. Thus, in the pre-registration, 1,722 people were registered, who attended one or more conferences, according to particular interests.

The cycle covered topics such as a current overview of the GHG emissions situation in the region and the world; climate change and variability: current and future scenarios; Impacts in arid, semi-arid and humid regions, GHG emissions and mitigation in tropical systems, changes in the regime of rivers and irrigated areas, impacts on corn, wheat, soybeans, grapes for wine under irrigation; effects on diseases, pests and weeds; impacts on climate change and challenges to face in the livestock sector, GHG mitigation in livestock; increase in CO2 absorptions from the agricultural sector; fertilization management with a view to reducing N2O emissions; methodological considerations for environmental impact studies in agricultural systems; Agricultural Sector Vulnerability: Autonomous and Planned Adaptation and a Summary on the Latest IPCC Land and Climate Change Report.

For this, there was an important group of speakers from various countries and institutions, namely, from Argentina from various units of INTA (Institutes of Soils and Climate and Water of CIRN, Rafaela, Balcarce, Pergamino and Manfredi), from Brazil researchers from EMBRAPA (Agrobiology and Semi-arid), Chile (INIA) and Spain (Fernando Maestre Gil). The organization was in charge of the aforementioned Project and Platform, highlighting the collaboration of the group of researchers from the Leguminous Project in the organization and moderation of the meeting and the PROCADIS Platform of INTA, which provided the tools for connectivity and the staff to make this happen. possible.

The virtual meetings lasted one hour, during which 30 minutes were presented by the speakers and then questions asked by the public.

Currently the material is available, unedited, on the INTA YouTube Channel but soon the material will be edited so that it is available to the public in a more harmonious and friendly format, so that it is accessible to all those who wish to consult it.
