Biochemist from the University of Santiago, Chile, and Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Since 2008, he has been a researcher at the Chilean Agricultural Research Institute (INIA), specializing in animal genetics and biotechnology. He leads the Biotechnology Laboratory at INIA Remehue, located in Osorno, in the Los Lagos Region.
His work focuses on the identification and validation of genetic markers (SNPs) for the selection of superior animals in commercial dairy and beef cattle herds. In parallel, he develops research aimed at the characterization and valorization of local animal genetic resources (AnGR), such as sheep and goats, which are managed through in situ conservation programs.
These research efforts are based on the application of biotechnology, molecular biology, and population genetics tools. Additionally, he is actively involved in studies related to the quality and safety of livestock products, particularly milk, by ensuring sanitary standards and conducting molecular diagnostics for pathogens. He also promotes genetic studies aimed at obtaining quality certification labels such as geographical indications and designations of origin (e.g., Chilota and Kunko sheep).
He is an active member of the Chilean Society of Animal Production and the Chilean Society of Genetics.
