FONTAGRO supports strategies for the sustainable intensification of agriculture. It places particular emphasis on the development of innovation processes to improve productivity and efficiency in time, without affecting the endowment of natural resources, or the economic, social, and environmental conditions of the society.
In this sense, FONTAGRO applies a systemic approach to agricultural and agrifood production, promoting integrated production models based on intensification practices which leverage the natural ecosystem processes as well as develop environmentally friendly agronomic practices.
Furthermore, FONTAGRO recognizes the concept of sustainable development as one which “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (Concept expressed for the first time in the Brundtland Report, UN, 1987).
